Mia Wilkinson’s (b. 1992) work creates a powerful yet witty statement about the way identity is performed in a media culture. The female figures she depicts wrestle on the canvas in an orgy of drips and loaded excess paint; each drawn from advertising, online forums, social media accounts and pay per click member sites. Handling the paint in a fast-paced vigour Wilkinson completes each painting in one sitting, depicting the figures with intense immediacy whilst still embracing the detailed nuances of the flesh. Confined within unsettling narratives the figures increasingly morph out of themselves to be exposed as bizarre avatars, through which Wilkinson creates an unapologetic view of the female nude, engaging with alternative cultures to reveal a new way of looking at the female body.

Wilkinson graduated from MA Painting (2025) at the  Royal College of Art and BA Painting (2014) at the Wimbledon College of Art, UAL.
