Leah (Yi) Huang (b. 1992, China) is a self taught artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, NY.

Huang’s work explores the power of the outsider, moving between desire and fear through intuitive, process-driven image-making that shifts across cultures and experiences of womanhood. Often non-representational and deeply personal, her works remain open-ended in their storytelling. Originally coming to painting through film photography, Huang now centres painting while maintaining photography as a supporting practice. Working without sketches, her paintings embrace the medium’s unpredictability, requiring presence and trust. Similarly, analog photography allows for chance “accidents” that become symbolic anchors. Across both, layered shapes, colour, and framing devices prompt a questioning of perspective, revealing the closeness of desire and fear.
