Flora Dorian (b.1994) is an artist based in London.

Dorian's work forms a study of the relationship between human structures, in the
abstract sense of belonging and self-actualisation and the tangible structures that rub up against these are themes of globalisation, the homogenisation of ethics and the imperative of the algorithm.

Dorian expresses this through anthropomorphic plants that inhabit a liminal landscape. Creating a visual language born out of the muted feelings and sentiments experienced when considering our relationship to the universe.

Referencing surrealism, her work carries a dreamlike quality that invites the viewer to suspend their disbelief and centre themselves in the narrative. Through moments of joy and tension Dorian encourages viewers to consider their relationship with nature, declaring that though often overlooked, misunderstood or maligned, this relationship is integral to who we are. Woven throughout the work is a deep sense of pathos that speaks of climate breakdown; the ceaseless extraction of value from natural wonder, and the devastation of the environment which speaks into the sorrow of a neutered world. Her work is imbued with a yearning for reconciliation, restoration and the human impulse to project outwards the focus of a better tomorrow.
